This 11-day private tour starting from Chengdu. You will have a good chance to visit lovely pandas in Chengdu Giant Panda Breeding Research Base. Then enjoy a wonderful train tour by Qinghai-Tibet Railway which can help you gradually adapt to the high altitude in Tibet. When arrival in Lhasa, you will visit most of the famous tourist attractions like Potala Palace, Jokhang Temple, Drepung Monastery, and so on. At last, you will head to Mt. Everest via Gyantse and Shigatse to continue an exciting Everest Base Camp tour. Detailed Itinerary
Day 1 Arrival in Chengdu
Welcome to Chengdu city, the hometown of lovely Pandas. Our tour guide will greet you at Chengdu airport or Chengdu train station according to your schedule, and transfer you to the hotel by our vehicle. After having a short rest at the hotel, you can explore this leisure city by yourself first.

Day 2 Chengdu Tour + Board the Train to Lhasa in the Evening
Attractions: Chengdu Panda Breeding, Jinli Old Street, Broad and Narrow Alley
In the morning, our tour guide will meet you at your hotel, and drive about half an hour to reach Chengdu Research Base of Giant Panda Breeding, the home to more than 100 of giant pandas and panda babies. Here, you’ll have a good chance to get close to these lovely pandas. You’ll take a leisurely walk on the bamboo forest trail and carefully observe these pandas who eat bamboo, play with each other, climb trees, etc. What’s more, you’ll never want to miss a chance to see female giant panda breastfeeding cubs in the nursery!
After lunch, you will visit famous Jinli Old Street, Broad and Narrow Alley, where you can taste some delicious local food, buy some delicate artifacts, and watch interesting folk shows.
In the evening, we will send you off to the Chengdu Railway station to take the train to Lhasa. It departs at 21:37, and will arrive in Lhasa at 09:55 after two days. It means you have to stay for two nights on the train. So, you are suggested to bring along with some food and snacks, such as bread, instant noodles, milk, etc. The hot food on the train is available, however, the cost is higher than the restaurant. Due to the long-time train trip, we advise you to book the soft sleeper tickets.
Please note that the train to Lhasa from Chengdu is not a daily train, but the only one available every two days. Thus, please check the train schedule with our trip advisor before planning a tour.

You will arrive in Xining today at 12:06 p.m. where the train will change to the Plateau model with oxygen offered in the carriage. So, here is the exact start of the Qinghai-Tibet train. The scenery from now on is pretty good.

Day 4 Arrival in Lhasa (3680m)
Welcome to Lhasa, the capital of Tibet! Your Tibetan guide and driver will wait for you at Lhasa Airport or the train station and then take you to the hotel. When driving on the road, you could enjoy the Tibetan pure blue sky and white clouds. It takes 1.5 hours from the airport to the center of Lhasa and about 20 minutes from the train station. After arriving at the hotel, you must be very excited and can’t wait to visit Lhasa city. But you are suggested to take a good rest in order to adapt to high altitudes. If you feel good, you could stroll through the city of Lhasa like Potala Square, where you can enjoy the beautiful night view of the Potala Palace.
Good to know:
*For travelers who are the first time to visit high altitude land, you are suggested to have a good rest in your hotel on the first day.
*If you would like to stay in a hotel with oxygen supply, you are suggested to stay at hotels such as Shangri-La Hotel, Lhasa (with a luxury oxygen spa) or Shambhala hotel (oxygen is supplied).

Day 5 Lhasa Sightseeing- Potala Palace, Jokhang Temple

Lhasa, the capital of Tibet, is well-known as an international tourism city with mystic Tibetan Buddhist culture and natural plateau scenery. Today, we will arrange you to explore this old and holy city which is already over 1300 years.
In the morning, you will head to visit world-known Potala Palace, which has the highest architecture in the world. It was built by Srongtsen Gampo in the 7th.century and used to be the winter palace of the Dalai Lama. Except for the art of buildings, you could also visit the gilded burial stupas of former Dalai Lamas and meditation Cave of the 33rd great king of Tibet.
After lunch, you are going to visit another symbolic scenic spot of Tibet-Jokhang Temple. It is considered to be the spiritual center of Tibetan Buddhism. In the temple, there is a golden life-sized statue of 12-year-old Sakyamuni, which was brought by Princess Wencheng from the Tang Dynasty. So, you could see many devout Tibetans do a pilgrimage in front of Jokhang temple. Afterward, you could stroll around the famous Barkhor Street, where you can enjoy a sweet tea, and buy some Tibetan souvenirs.

Day 6 Lhasa Sightseeing- Drepung Monastery, Sera Monastery
Attractions: Drepung Monastery, Sera Monastery
Today, you will also discover two other highlights of Lhasa – Drepung Monastery and Sera Monastery. In the morning, you are going to visit Drepung Monastery, the largest monastery in Tibet. Before the liberation of Tibet, more than 10,000 monks lived and studied. Therefore, Drepung Monastery is also well-known as the “Mother School of Dalai Lamas”
In the afternoon, you will visit the Sera Monastery. You can enjoy a wonderful Buddhist debate in the monastery, open daily from 3 pm to 5 pm, except on Sundays. You can participate in the daily debate of 80 monks in a closed courtyard. This is more like a question and answers session on Tibetan Buddhism. Through this debate, you can learn more about Tibetan Buddhism culture.

Day 7 Lhasa - Gyantse (4040m) – Shigatse (3840m), 360km, Approx. 6hrs
Attractions: Yamdroktso Lake, Karola Glacier, Pelkor Chöde Monastery
In the morning, you’re going to visit Pala Manor, a well-preserved serf manor. The Pala Manor retains the noble layout of traditional Tibetan architecture, giving you an excellent understanding of the rich landowners.
Then, you’ll drive to Shigatse which 100km far away from Gyantse city. After arrival, you’ll have lunch at Shigatse city and have a short rest. Then, you could pat a visit to Shalu Monastery, was founded in 1040 A.D. by Chetsun Sherab Jungne. There are exquisite murals and pilgrim crowd in the monastery.

Day 8 Shigatse - Tingri – Rongbuk - EBC (5100m), 360km, Approx. 6hrs
Attractions: Rongbuk Monastery, the sunset of golden of Everest peak
Today is the most exciting moment of your Tibet trip. From Shigatse, we will take you to the Everest Base Camp at 5,100 meters above the sea level. We will pass the Tsola Pass(4600M), and Gyatsola Pass(5248M), then enter the Everest National Nature Reserve. At the Gawla Pass (5198 m), You will enjoy a panoramic view of the Himalaya ranges including some famous mountains such as Mt. Makalu (8463 m), Mt. Lhotse (8516m), Mt. Everest (8844m), Mt. Cho Oyu (8201m) and Mt. Shishapama (8020m). Then follow the new road, you will reach Everest Base Camp (5100m). If the weather permits, you can get a clear view of the sunset of the golden Mount Everest. Besides, you can wander around the Rongbuk Monastery (5,150m), the highest monastery in the world.

Day 9 EBC - Shigatse, 350km, Approx. 7hrs
Today, you can get up in the early morning to enjoy the beautiful sunrise of Everest peak. Also, you can wander around Rongbuk Monastery, the highest monastery in the world. You could see a few Tibet people do a kora in front of the monastery. After breakfast, you will drive back to Shigatse via Old Tingri. On the route, you will get a good view of the Himalaya mountains. You will reach to Shigatse in the late afternoon.

Day 10 Shigatse – Lhasa, 280km, Approx. 6-7hrs
In the morning, you will head to Tashihunpo Monastery, the home of Panchen Lama. It’s famous for the largest Buddhism school in Shigatse. You are lucky to see many Tibetan people do a kora in the front of monastery.
After that, you will drive back to Lhasa from Shigatse. It’s only 280km from Shigatse to Lhasa, but with the speed-limit regulation, it usually takes about 5 hours on the way. After arriving in Lhasa hotel, you can have a good rest.

Day 11 Departure from Lhasa
Your tour ends today. After breakfasts, you will be free for the morning. Our staff will pick you up at your hotel and send you off to Lhasa Airport/Railway Station.
