Tibet Travel Permit
According to the policy from Tibet Tourism Bureau, all foreign travelers need Tibet Tourism Bureau (TTB) permit to board a plane or train to Tibet. To get this, you need to book a Tibet tour with an authorized Tibet travel agency in Lhasa. Usually, Tour companies need 12-working days to get your permits.
All foreign tourists must get a Tibet Travel Permit to board the flight or train to Tibet according to the policy from Tibet Tourism Bureau. Apart from Tibet Travel permit, other permits are required if you’re planning to visit the unopened areas, like Mt.Everest, Mt.Kailash area.
#1 Find an authorized Tibet travel agency to help you arrange Tibet tour;
#2 Send your passport and Chinese visa copies to your travel agency, then they will get your permits within 12 working days.
#3 If you take a flight to Lhasa, the travel agency will send the original of Tibet permits to your hotel in a China city before the tour starts. If you take a train, the travel agency will send the copies of permits to you by email.
According to the policy from the Tibet Tourism Bureau, the Tibet travel permit is free to apply for. Some travel agency may charge you some handling fee to get a Tibet Travel Permit. Also, if you didn’t provide the passport and China Visa in time, the extra fee will be charged for the urgent handling charge. Please check with your trip advisor for the exact amount.
As you see, all foreign tourists must get a Tibet Travel Permit to board the flight or train to Tibet according to the policy from Tibet Tourism Bureau. On Tibet travel permit, it will show your tour guide information, a private vehicle and driver and tour itinerary in Tibet. So you are not allowed to travel independently in Tibet, you need to let a Tibet travel agency arrange your Tibet tour.
